Oak By Design Joins The Team Leitz Tooling For Technical Training, Tooling Support & Machining Optimisation:

At Leitz, we regularly hold customer training seminars. These events provide our customers with the opportunity to learn more about tooling, machinery, optimisation, and other related topics such as tool management. In September of 2024, we were joined by the skilled team at Oak By Design who joined us at our factory and service centre in Leeds. Beginning with an overview of 145+ years of Leitz company history and innovations, the seminar took a closer look at the tooling and machining processes and most importantly how to maximise tool performance. After the seminair, we took the Oak By Design team for a “behind the scenes” tour of our Leeds factory and service centre.

The Leitz Leeds factory is equipped with many high-tech automated grinding machinery that allows Leitz Tooling to resharpen tooling within microns of accuracy and to a consistent quality. The Leeds factory is also a Leitz diamond sharpening hub that specialises in diamond erosion to sharpen various tools like cutter heads, saw blades , router cutters and more.  Leitz took this opportunity to showcase to the Oak By Design staff the attention to detail that goes into every Leitz tool sharpen. The guided tour includes highlight of new automated saw sharpening machinery, featuring the UK’s most sophisticated saw sharpening setup as of September 2024, robotics and advanced measuring equipment.

This was followed up by a light lunch in the conference room and then a focus on CNC manufacturing processes, techniques and optimisation for furniture production. The second half of the seminar was focused around improving efficiency and also manufacturing speeds. We looked at how we can help Oak by Design to increase manufacturing with their existing array of machinery.
